DOUBLETHINK AS DESCRIBED IN ORWELL'S NOVEL 1984:
"doublethink: To know and not to know, to be conscious of
complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed
lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled
out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in
both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate
morality while laying claim to it, to believe that
democracy was impossible and that the Party was the
guardian of democracy, to forget whatever it was necessary
to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the
moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it
again : and above all, to apply the same process to the
process itself. That was the ultimate subtlety:
consciously to induce unconsciousness, and then, once
again, to become unconscious of the act of hypnosis you
had just performed." -- quoted from George Orwell's "1984"
"Doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory
beliefs in one's mind simlutaneously, and accepting both
of them. The Party intellecual knows in which direction
his memories must be altered; he therefore knows that he
is playing tricks with reality; but by the exercise of
doublethink he also satisfies himself that reality is not
violated. The process has to be conscious, or it would not
be carried out with sufficient precision, but it must also
be unconscious, or it would bring with it a feeling of
falsity and hence of guilt. Doublethink lies at the very
heart of Ingsoc, since the essencial act of the Party is
to use cnscious deception while retaining the firmness of
purpose that goes with complete honesty." (pg. 214,
Orwell, 1984)
DOUBLETHINK AS MASONIC MIND CONTROL
Thus, so defined, doublethink is a state of mind that
epitomizes the Kabbalistic mindset, which is symbolized by
the hexagram, where the triangles, one black and one
white, interlocked, represent the co-mingling of opposite
principles of truth and falsehood, morality and imorality,
reason and unreason, consciousness and unconsciousness,
sincerity and insincerity, etc., and according to Orwell
himself, it invovles a sort of hypnotism, dislocation, or
what might well be called a kind of systematically induced
dissociative disorder, i.e., to use oldspeak, a magically
induced hex or spell. Here we will examine this hexthink.
"The key word here is blackwhite. Like so many Newspeak
words, this word has two mutually contradictory meanings.
Applied to an opponent, it means the habit of impudently
claiming that black is white, in contradiction to the
plain facts. Applied to a Party member, it means loyal
willingness to say that black is white when Party
discipline demmands this. But it means also the ability to
believe that black is white, and more, to know that black
is white, and to forget that one has ever believed the
contrary. This demands a continous alteration of the past
[on an individual level, forgetfulness, i.e., hypnotism,
dissociative identify disorder, or simply repression] made
possible by the system of thought which really embraces
all the rest, and which is known in Newspeak as
doublethink." -- 1984, pg 212, George Orwell [brackets
